Momentum pullback
In plain English. This is a weekly shortlist of stocks that are already in established uptrends and have recently pulled back toward their short-term averages. The scan is designed to identify potential re-entry setups — situations where a strong market trend has paused rather than a stock that has already become extended.
In a healthy uptrend, price can temporarily pull back toward its short-term trend averages, such as the EMA10 or SMA20, before resuming higher. The system therefore focuses on stocks where the trend remains intact but the entry point has become more favorable.
How the list is built
Every Saturday at 08:00 CET, the scanner evaluates the entire U.S. large- and mid-cap universe.
Stocks must first pass a series of hard trend and liquidity filters. Candidates that do not meet the requirements are removed before ranking.
The remaining stocks are ranked according to the quality of their potential re-entry setup, including:
- proximity to the EMA10 and SMA20
- relative strength versus the benchmark
- RSI(14) cooling into the 40–60 range
- quality and consistency of previous support reactions
- trend linearity and stability
- continued 3-month relative strength
The objective is not to identify the stocks that have already risen the most. It is to identify strong trends that are currently closer to a potential entry zone.
Market regime matters
The scan is most relevant when market breadth and trend conditions are supportive. During broad market corrections, consolidation or rapid rotation, fewer stocks pass the initial filters and the number of available setups is deliberately reduced.
The regime indicator therefore acts as a context filter, rather than allowing the scanner to fill the list with progressively weaker candidates.
